Laurie Weltz is an award winning writer/director whose debut feature film, WRESTLING WITH ALLIGATORS, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. ALLIGATORS starred Joely Richardson, Aleksa Palladino, Claire Bloom, Adrienne Shelly, Sam Trammel, and Jay O. Sanders and was released theatrically and on video and television.

Laurie’s second feature film, ABOUT SCOUT aka SCOUT, based on her award winning script was released in 2016 both theatrically and on VOD and DVD after a successful festival run. The film stars India Ennenga, Ellen Burstyn, Danny Glover, Jane Seymour, Nikki Reed and James Frecheville.

She is presently in development on her third feature film, THE NIGHT SWIMMER, and on a television pilot for a limited series called, THE NARRATIVE. Laurie has written two other optioned feature scripts: WATERMOON, a ghostly thriller, and MONKEY RIVER, a family film, which won the Grand Prize in the PAGE Screenwriting Competition.

Laurie has worked as a freelance director and editor on hundreds of television shows, music videos, documentaries and branded content, including such television documentaries as SHOCK VIDEO, an HBO feature doc, A&E’s documentary series HEROES, MADE IN THE USA, a six part TV series for Channel 4 in the U.K. and NELSON SULLIVAN’S WORLD OF WONDER, a one hour video diary about the NY club scene in the 80’s. Her television work has twice been nominated for an ACE Award.

Laurie is a graduate of NYU Grad Film and her award winning thesis film, AT FIVE AND TWENTY-FIVE, was aired on USA Television. She is the festival programming director for the Film Fatales, a panelist and organizer of the Women’s Media Summit, and has served as a judge for several film festivals. Her projects have been recipients of numerous awards, as well as participants in IFP Emerging Filmmakers, IFP’s No Borders, MOME Financing Lab, a finalist for NYWIFT’s Ravenal Grant, and Stowe Story Labs PAGE Screenwriting Fellow.
